Let Intuition Be Your Guide

The saying, “going with your gut” should probably be more along the lines of,  “going with your brain” as researchers start to unravel exactly where that feeling of intuition stems from. They found that as our brains take in information we start to spot patterns of behaviors, events, causes, results and other repeat situations. Our brain takes these patterns and files them into logical groups in a process called chunking. When we use our intuition to help us come up with the answer to something what we are doing is accessing chunks that relate to the situation in question and using the pattern information stored inside them to judge against the pattern in the present.

“Over time your brain chunks and links more and more patterns, then stores these clusters of knowledge in your long-term memory. When you see a tiny detail of a familiar design, you instantly recognize the larger composition—and that’s what we regard as a flash of intuition…”

Just saw your post on FB re how an achiever sees problems:
I agree with you Tony and I aman avid follower BUT this all goes to hell when you discover your wife is cheating on you. The pain and despair, especially as this is the second time it has happened, is just too much to bear. I do feel like my whole life is over. What do you say to that?

An achiever never sees a problem as being pervasive, that is, that one problem controls their whole life. They always see it as, ‘Well, it’s just a little challenge with my eating pattern.’ They don’t see it as, ‘I’m the problem. Because I overeat, my whole life is destroyed.’”

I’ve learnt to trust my intuition after a time where it was very strong and when I ignored it I had something really bad happen.

One thing I find as I let go of more stuff with EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) I get more intuitive and am suddenly inspired to take certain actions, and these are usually the actions that get me the best results!

I also used to do security, and I learnt that my intuition was nearly always right, when I thought or said “this guy is going to cause trouble” nearly every time it was right. So I learnt to trust that.

So I believe it is part experience and part letting go of what is stopping you really trusting this intuition!

  3. I really appreciate your writing!

Thank, I found this greatly helpful…to now channel my intuition more better

  5. Delise says:

    Very interesting, thanks tony!

  6. Crawlcraft says:

clearly our brain work like a computer processor. the problem is that emotions can entangle the data

  7. Anton Gayton says:

I think that you definitely have to go with your gut, or brain as the new research has shown, although I think it needs to be moderated, as its not always safe to rely totally on what your brain tells you, seek help and advice.

  8. Wendy Joris says:

Yes I remember a time I did that very vividely. I had just read a book about intuition in which pretty much the same as you are explaining here was elaborated on, and especially the part where your brain registers and remembers way more than you can imagine and I decided to test it.
Now women are known for not being great map readers, but somehow I am, usually better than men (in my environment anyways).
I’m not very good at remembering things though.
So this time I challenged myself. I printed out a map and directions to this place I needed to go to and read it once. They were very complicated directions with lots of turns to the right and left and rounbabouts and I had never been in that part of the city either.
Then I threw the map away and drove there. It didn’t take long before I forgot the directions but at every crossroad I felt into my heart and I got a clear response and without hesitating (which is the key to believing in yourself and your intuition) I took the road I felt was right.
And believe it or not, I did not make any wrong turn, and I was even there on time!
If I would have stopped and started thinking about it in logical ways, I would have at least taken 1 wrong turn. That’s why you should not think, but feel.
I advice all of you to stop doubting your intuition, it is way stronger than any logic can explain, it is YOU.

Intuition is the inner voice of God which is
the first voice of inner truth to follow.
we need only practice in order to hear the word
    of intuition.

  10. Yes, we can call up information that is part of a pattern, and I do think we chunk information to help us store it in a way that makes sense, but to me intuition has a lot to do with accessing information outside the normal range of our five senses. When I say normal range, I probably should say the average range for a particular culture because cultural beliefs and training can influence the development of our senses slightly, but that is another issue.

People who are very intuitive are picking up additional sensory information outside the range that science can measure and beyond what most people commonly pay attention to. Just as a dog can hear things that people can’t and insects can see colors in flowers that people can’t, intuition is how we access real but subtle information, just beyond the range of our “normal” senses.

The most common of these intuitive senses is clairsentience, the ability to pick up on someone energy and feel what they are feeling by running their energy through your body. You can also feel the energy of various environments by running the energy through your body. Mother’s intuition is a rich combination of energy cords sending feelings and information back and forth between a mother and her child, the mother’s knowledge of her child, and information gathered from her regular senses.

Clairvoyance meaning clear seeing, and clairaudience, clear hearing, are other common high sense tools people use. We all utilize the subtle ranges of our senses to some degree. People who are naturally intuitive or have developed their intuition, through training, are better at tuning into high sense information, interpreting the meaning, and most importantly following through on the information. These abilities are part of our birthright as humans and can be taught and developed like any other skill.

There are many common uses of language that describe high sense perception. For example if I said, “That person has a dark cloud over his head” you would know I was describing someone who was worried or depressed. Looking at this person clairvoyantly he would actually appear to have a dark mass of energy above or around his head, clouding his ability to bring in his life-force energy. A “wet blanket” would be clairvoyantly seen or clairsentiently felt, as a heavy, oppressive energy wrapping around someone’s aura or energy field.

Realize it or not, we all pick up on the subtle energy that is an extension of our five senses. When this information is trusted and integrated with our five senses and recognizable patterns, we arrive at an intuitive answer derived from a mixture of conscious and unconscious processes. When we trust our high sense perceptions we have the added advantage of additional information to help us make decisions and navigate our way through life.

  11. Rachael says:

I am sure their study is correct in how we process information, but this is not intuition as I have experienced it, and I don’t experience it in my brain, except for the times when I just know something about someone instantly that could not have been observed in any way, or I just know something I need to say. When I have an intuitive response, I feel energy, sometimes I feel cold, or the hairs on my neck rising. It is often a whole body response.
